These tours are thank you gifts for your participation on ASP 2019. However, you have option not to join either or both tours. Please confirm your participation on these tours below.

Section J – Class Selection

Each participant can ONLY take one course from Group A (9:30 am – 12:00 pm) and one course from Group B (13:30 pm – 16:00 pm).

Course enrollment will be made on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis. Enrollment in courses is limited, so applicants should rank their course preferences for Group A and for Group B. In each section, choose number ‘1’ in the box next to the most preferred course in that section. Continue numbering with ‘2’ as the second choice, ‘3’ as the third and so on up to ‘5’. In total, 10 preferences should be listed (1-5 in each section).

Applicants should confirm in advance of any potential issues regarding the transfer of credits earned at ASP 2019 by consulting with a representative at their home university.

  • Remanufacturing

    The increasing environmental awareness motivates countries to conserve energy and natural resources. Remanufacturing is deemed to be the most preferable practice that contributes to energy and natural resources conservation. In this course students will learn what is remanufacturing, end-of-life product management, remanufacturing in the context of product and process design, drivers and barriers for remanufacturing, and case studies of remanufacturing in Indonesia.

  • Indonesian Language and Culture

    In Indonesian Language and Culture Program, the students will learn how to introduce themselves, tell other people about themselves and their activities, tell other people about places in Indonesia, and interact with Indonesian people and adapt themselves when living in Indonesia. At the end of the program, they will be able to use Indonesian language in a simple conversation and know the culture of Indonesia, especially the culture of people in Surabaya. (This class is team teaching)

  • Basic Mandarin Language

    Basic Mandarin Language class is designed for students who have no previous knowledge in Mandarin Language. Students will gain listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in standard spoken or written in standard Chinese. Be able to understand some deliberate speech and discussion pertaining to such topics. Be able to handle successfully most communicative tasks and social situations.   • Visual Storytelling Developement

    This course explains the nature of digital storytelling-based images as they are delivered to the audience, the quality of their highly subjective visual perception, and the effects of relationship to patterns and reactions.   • Introduction to Sustainability

    This course builds a basic understanding of the concept of sustainable development. The course will expose the student to the pillars of sustainability with examples taken from real cases in developing countries. The student will be exposed to the basic of non-renewable and renewable energy from sustainable point of view. The course also covers the topic of circular economy, which will cover facets such as 3R concept (reduce, reuse and recycling), electrical energy efficiency and life cycle assessment.

    The course presents relevant topics in the study of organizational behavior, especially in dealing with different personalities in the modern workplace.   • Story Listening and Reading for Beginners

    In this co-taught course students will hear interesting stories in easy to understand English from around the world (folk tales). Students will also read graded readers, books written in easy to understand English, at home as homework. A final exam will be given on the last day of class. The goal of this 3-week course is to help students improve to the next level of English proficiency in just 15 days.

    This course is designed to guide students to the appreciation of poetry though dramatic interpretation.
